Mayor Bowser to Cut Ribbon on $82.9 Million Truesdell Elementary Modernization, Celebrate First Day of Pre-K

Thursday, August 28, 2025

(Washington, DC) – Today, Thursday, August 28 at 11 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will join District officials, school leaders, and community members to cut the ribbon on the $82.9 million modernization of Truesdell Elementary School in Ward 4 and celebrate the first day of Pre-K for the District’s youngest learners.

This $82.9 million investment transforms Truesdell into a vibrant, state-of-the-art learning environment that supports students from infancy through elementary school. In addition to brand-new classrooms, a turf field, and flexible indoor-outdoor learning spaces, the school features a dedicated early childhood space offering free, full-day Pre-K3 and Pre-K4, as well as a child development center for infants and toddlers ages 0–2.

As families and caregivers settle into the new school year, they are encouraged to explore the 2025 Back to School Guide at backtoschool.dc.gov, which provides all the essential information needed for a successful school year.
