Mayor Bowser to Co-Host Screening of National Geographic Documentary Film ‘From the Ashes’

Wednesday, June 7, 2017

(WASHINGTON, DC) – On Thursday, June 8, at 6 pm, Mayor Muriel Bowser will join Bloomberg Philanthropies and National Geographic for the screening of From the Ashes, a documentary that explores the controversy of energy production, coal, and the mining industry. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Michael Bonfiglio, the film captures Americans in communities across the country as they wrestle with the legacy of the coal industry, and what its future should look like under the Trump Administration.

Prior to the screening, Mayor Bowser will discuss the Bowser Administration’s environmental and clean energy initiatives to reduce carbon emissions in Washington, DC. In response to President Trump’s announcement to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris Climate Accord, Mayor Bowser, along with 245 U.S. mayors, signed the U.S. Climate Mayors’ Pledge to adopt, uphold, and honor the goals of the Paris Climate Accord. Earlier this week, Mayor Bowser signed a Mayoral Order to bind Washington, DC to the Paris Climate Accord.
