Bloomberg Philanthropies and the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation to Make Historic Gift to DCPS

(Washington, DC) – Tomorrow, Mayor Muriel Bowser, Deputy Mayor for Education Jennie Niles, DC Public Schools (DCPS) Chancellor Kaya Henderson and DC Public Education Fund President and Executive Director Jessica Rauch will announce a new $4 million investment by Bloomberg Philanthropies and the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation to support a new curricular strategy across DC Public Schools.

These investments will support Cornerstone Assignments, DCPS’ new curricular approach that exemplifies the Bowser Administration’s commitment to ensuring equity and increasing excellence in every classroom across the city. Developed by DCPS’ top teachers, Cornerstones will provide all DCPS educators the tools they need to be even more effective starting in School Year 2015-16. As the next phase of DCPS’ Common Core State Standards implementation, Cornerstones provide access to rigorous content for every student, improved professional development for teachers that is anchored by student work, and continuity and consistency across every grade and every subject. Investments by Bloomberg Philanthropies and the Schusterman Family Foundation will enable DCPS to supplement and strengthen instruction, improving teaching and learning across Washington, DC.
