Mayor Bowser to Celebrate Third Anniversary of Highly Successful Books from Birth Program

Early literacy initiative mails District children under age five a free book each month

(Washington, DC) – On Monday, February 4, at 11:30 a.m., Mayor Muriel Bowser along with Councilmember Charles Allen, DC Public Library Executive Director Richard Reyes-Gavilan, and community leaders will celebrate the third anniversary of the DC Public Library’s ‘Books from Birth’ program. This initiative, introduced by Councilmember Charles Allen, promotes Mayor Muriel Bowser’s commitment to create better educational outcomes for children and families in Washington, DC.

Since February 2016, the ‘Books from Birth’ program has jumpstarted the development process for more than 40 thousand youth under the age of five.
