(WASHINGTON, DC) – On Saturday, February 17, at 8 am, Mayor Bowser will officially lead the opening celebration of the Oxon Run Trail in conjunction with the first Frederick Douglass 5K run to honor the 200th birthday of Frederick Douglass. The Oxon Run Trail, a 12-month construction project, connects from South Capitol Street SE to 13th Street SE and is the District’s latest step in connecting the Metropolitan Branch Trail network.
Members of the community will also join the Mayor in putting the finishing touches on the planting of an English Elm tree, the same species that shaded Frederick Douglass during his historic speeches of the 1870s.
