Thursday, April 19, 2018
Fourteen Battery-Electric Buses to Officially Hit Streets on May 1

(Washington, DC) – On Friday, April 20, at 10 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will continue to celebrate #EarthWeekDC with the deployment of a new fleet of 14 electric buses for the DC Circulator at the Downtown BID’s Annual State of Downtown Forum. Taking to the road on May 1, the District’s electric bus rollout will be the largest electric bus fleet in the DC region, and one of the largest electric bus fleets nationwide.

The new battery-electric buses, Proterra E2 Catalyst Electric Buses, are manufactured in the United States and run on 100 percent battery electric propulsion. The vehicles will bring clean, quiet, zero-emission transportation to more than 4.8 million annual riders and the Circulator’s 189 drivers. The new buses will be released across all six distinct Circulator routes and represent 18 percent of the total Circulator fleet.

Two buses will be staged on 6th Street, NW and short rides will be available at 10:15 am (Bus 1) and 10:30 am (Bus 2) to the John A. Wilson Building and back to Newseum.

Mayor Bowser has declared this #EarthWeekDC by launching a series of events that celebrate Earth Day as well as highlight her Administration’s progress in making DC the healthiest, greenest, and most livable city in the United States.
