Mayor Bowser to Break Ground on 80 Affordable Apartments for Seniors at Abrams Hall on Parks at Walter Reed

Sunday, July 15, 2018
A project originally led by then-Councilmember Bowser, Walter Reed Development has delivered Engine 22, DC International and LAMB Schools and soon, housing for formerly homeless veterans

On Monday, July 16, at 10:30 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will break ground on the Abrams Hall Senior Apartments, an 80-unit housing community dedicated for seniors on the campus of the former Walter Reed Army Medical Center, now The Parks at Walter Reed, in Ward 4.

A result of a successful community-driven process led by then-Councilmember Bowser and now by Mayor Bowser, the Walter Reed development project has already delivered two community-serving benefits; in February 2018, Mayor Bowser cut the ribbon on the DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services (FEMS) Engine Company 22, a state-of-the-art fire station at 6825 Georgia Ave NW; and in September 2017, the DC International and LAMB Schools, opened for their first school year in the former Delano Hall on the campus serving nearly 1,000 students from all eight wards. In May, the Bowser Administration also broke ground on 77 affordable housing units for formerly homeless veterans on the historic campus.
