Mayor Bowser to Award Over $140,000 in Opportunity Student Scholarships to Selected MBSYEP and MBYLI Participants

(WASHINGTON, DC) – On Friday, July 28, at 11 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will award over 70 scholarships of $2,000 or more to incoming or current college and trade school students, and military enlistees. Selected participants from the Mayor Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program (MBSYEP) and Marion Barry Youth Leadership Institute (MBYLI) will receive a Mayor’s Opportunity Student Scholarship towards their post-secondary education, military, or occupational training.

In 2015, Mayor Bowser introduced legislation to serve 22-24 year olds for the first time in the history of the summer youth employment program, and this year, DC Council approved legislation to permanently expand the program, making all District youth ages 14-24 eligible to participate.
