(Washington, DC) – Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced the nomination of David Michael Bennett to chair the Board of Elections (BOE). The BOE is the independent agency of the District government responsible for the administration of elections, ballot access, voter registration and campaign finance.
“The District residents must trust the integrity of their elections, and the Board of Elections is charged with overseeing that process,” said Mayor Bowser. “Mr. Bennett’s background in law and technology uniquely position him to lead and reform the Board. His experience will help the Board identify and implement new technologies and strategies.”
Bennett is an accomplished corporate attorney with a track record of navigating complex legal issues, including multi-billion dollar mergers and acquisitions. His expertise includes information management and cyber security strategy and execution, organizational management and transformation, as well as executive leadership and diversity and inclusion consulting. Bennett received a Juris Doctorate from the George Washington University Law School and a Bachelor of Arts with honors from Duke University.
“I want to thank outgoing BOE Chair Deborah Nichols for her decades of public service as well her leadership at the Board of Elections,” continued Mayor Bowser.
The BOE consists of three active Board members, an Executive Director, a General Counsel and a number of support staff who run the day-to-day operations of the Agency. More information about the BOE can be found at dcboee.org.
