Mayor Bowser Announces Key Appointments

Friday, January 10, 2020

Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that Gianelle Rivera will serve as the Director of the Mayor’s Office of Policy (MOP) and Tim White will lead a new Office of East of the River Development in the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED).

Since 2017, Ms. Rivera has served in the Office of Policy and Legislative Affairs (OPLA) as Associate Director and Deputy Director, helping to facilitate the lines of communication between the Executive and the Council. Ms. Rivera played key roles in analyzing and advising senior leadership on structure and implementation of the Mayor’s legislative and policy agenda. Prior to joining OPLA, Ms. Rivera served in the Obama Administration as a Policy Advisor in the US General Services Administration’s Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs. There, she worked on a number of policy issues primarily focused on technology, cybersecurity, digital services, and innovation.

Additionally, Tim White, who has been serving as the Director of the Office for East of the River Services, will now lead a new Office of East of the River Development in DMPED. In this new capacity, Mr. White will work on projects consistent with the Mayor’s goal of creating 36,000 new housing units by 2025 and efforts to create pathways to the middle class for Washingtonians. As part of a reorganization effort, current staff at the Office for East of the River Services will be incorporated into existing agencies to identify, elevate, and address challenges faced by residents living in neighborhoods east of the river.
