Mayor Bowser Announces FBI and MPD Increasing Reward to $45,000 for Information in the Homicide of Makiyah Wilson

Monday, July 30, 2018

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Mayor Muriel Bowser today announced the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and FBI Washington Field Office are offering a joint reward of up to $45,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest, and prosecution of four suspects responsible for the murder of 10 year-old Makiyah Wilson. This is a $20,000 increase to the existing $25,000 award which was previously announced.

On Monday, July 16, 2018, at approximately 8:00 p.m., members of the MPD’s Sixth District responded to the 300 block of 53rd Street, Northeast, Washington, DC for the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, officers located Wilson, an adult female, and an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victims to area hospitals. After all life-saving efforts failed, Wilson was pronounced dead. Two other adult male victims sought treatment at an area hospital for gunshot wounds.

Mayor Bowser and MPD were on scene briefing the media immediately after the shooting, and agencies across the Bowser Administration have been focusing additional resources in the Clay Terrace neighborhood in the two weeks since the shooting. They have been calling on the public’s assistance in identifying those responsible.

“There are people out there who can help us bring those reckless and dangerous individuals who took Makiyah Wilson’s life to justice. We need those with information about this case to share what they know, and they can do so anonymously. Our community cannot and will not tolerate the murder of a child,” said Mayor Bowser.

Since the shooting, MPD recovered the vehicle described as a black Infiniti four door sedan, missing the rear bumper. Video of the incident was captured by a nearby surveillance camera and can be seen here. The public is asked to view the video and call MPD or the FBI with any information related to this murder.

At the request of MPD, the FBI Washington Field Office has joined the investigation and added $20,000 to the reward of $25,000.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at 202-727-9099. Anonymous information may also be submitted to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by sending a text message to 50411. Additionally, the public can contact the FBI Washington Field Office at (202) 278-2000 or submit a tip at https://tips.fbi.gov if you have any information about this case.
