Mayor Bowser Announces Appointment of Kevin Harris as Communications Director

(Washington, DC) – Today, Mayor Bowser announced the appointment of Kevin Harris as Communications Director. Mr. Harris most recently served as a National Regional Campaign Director and Senior Adviser at Hillary for America.

Mr. Harris held various roles throughout the campaigns and Administration of President Barack Obama, including as a Presidential Appointee at the Peace Corps, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the White House Office of Legislative Affairs, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative under Ambassador Ron Kirk, and with First Lady Michelle Obama on the Let Girls Learn Initiative.

From 2013 to 2015, Mr. Harris served as Chief of Public Affairs and Communications for Baltimore City Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake.

Mr. Harris came to the District in 2002 to attend Howard University where he received his B.A. in Journalism. He subsequently received a Master’s degree in government from Johns Hopkins University in Washington, DC. He resides in Ward 1 with his wife Jill and their shih tzu Daisy.

Rob Hawkins, who has served as the interim Communications Director since July, will resume his full-time duties as Deputy Chief of Staff and Special Counsel to the Mayor. Mr. Hawkins will focus on public and governmental affairs, including the coordination and analysis of agency coordination and preparation for the new Trump Administration.
