Mayor Bowser to Announce UDC Scholarship Initiative and Provide Long-term Locations for DC Public Charter Schools

As part of Education Week, Mayor Muriel Bowser, Deputy Mayor for Education Jennie Niles, University of the a District of Columbia President Ronald Mason and Public Charter School Board Executive Director Scott Pearson will announce two initiatives that will accelerate the pace of education reform in the District.  

Mayor Bowser will announce a new scholarship initiative by the University of the District of Columbia to provide full four-year scholarships and housing stipends to the Valedictorians and Salutatorians of DCPS and the District’s Public Charter Schools, with the goal of supporting talented District students.

The Mayor will also announce a long-term solicitation for two DCPS schools to be utilized as charters. Additionally, the MC Terrell School in Ward 8 will be awarded to the Charter School Incubator Initiative to further expand education opportunities for children and adults.
