Mayor Bowser and DC School Officials Kick Off Expanded "Kids Ride Free" Program for 2015 School Year

(Washington, DC) – Tomorrow, August 17 at 2:30 pm, Mayor Muriel Bowser will travel on Metrorail with DC school officials to remind parents and students to register for the "Kids Ride Free" program.

Originally created by then-Councilmember Bowser's legislation in 2013, "Kids Ride Free" is part of the School Transit Subsidy Program. Mayor Bowser expanded the "Kids Ride Free" program to rail in her first budget as Mayor. The expanded program now allows students to travel on Metrorail and bus and increases affordable transportation options available to students attending DC Public Schools (DCPS) and DC Public Charter Schools. For an average family with two kids who take the metro, Kids Ride Free on rail will save $600 over the course of the school year.

Starting Monday, District students can enroll online to register for the free pass, which will be loaded onto students' DC One Cards within one to three days. To register, visit kidsridefree.dc.gov.

Mayor Bowser will deliver brief remarks at the Archives-Navy Memorial station and will then travel on the green line to Anacostia with students and education leaders.
