Bowser Administration and CityBridge Education to Hold DC Teacher Summit on February 11

Wednesday, December 21, 2022

(Washington, DC) – The Bowser Administration, through the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education (DME), and CityBridge Education are partnering to hold a “DC Teacher Summit” for educators from DC Public Schools (DCPS) and public charter schools on Saturday, February 11, 2023, from 9 am – 2 pm.

The summit is themed, “Teachers Teaching Teachers (T^3): Lessons from Classroom to Community,” and will bring together teachers from across the city to connect and share strong instructional practices through teacher-led sessions.

“We know our teachers are doing incredible work every day to boost student learning. We’re excited that this teacher-led summit will provide a space for teachers from across the city to connect and learn from each other,” said Mayor Muriel Bowser. “Building community among our teachers is critical to our efforts to attract and retain incredible educators.”

“DC is home to many of the most talented and forward-thinking educators in the country,” said CityBridge CEO Rachel Evans. “As we consider how to build classrooms and school communities that unlock the potential of every student, we must first shine the spotlight on the exceptional work that is already being done by DCPS and public charter school teachers across the city.”

The idea for the summit originated from teacher feedback, with educators from DCPS and public charter schools expressed a desire to connect with and learn from other DC teachers. As part of the Summit, DME and CityBridge Education are seeking individuals, pairs, or small groups of teachers to lead 45-minute learning sessions on instructional practices, resources, or learning methods that have proven to be successful in preparing students for inside the classroom and outside the classroom.

Interested candidates can learn more about submitting their proposals at citybridge.org/dc-teacher-summit/. Proposals are due January 17, 2023, at noon. Teachers interested in attending can submit their interest at linktr.ee/teachersummit2023.
