Bowser Administration to Celebrate DC Changemakers at the Washington Women of Excellence Awards

(Washington, DC) – Tonight, Thursday, May 22 at 5 pm, the Bowser Administration will host the annual Washington Women of Excellence Awards at the University of the District of Columbia. This celebration honors extraordinary women who have demonstrated commitment, leadership, and service to women and families across the District of Columbia.
 
Each year, the Mayor’s Office on Women’s Policy and Initiatives (MOWPI) collaborates with the DC Commission for Women to recognize local leaders who have made exceptional contributions in their fields. This year’s celebration coincides with both Women’s Health Month and WorldPride 2025, and seeks to uplift diverse voices and trailblazers across education, civic engagement, sports, and economic development.

The 2025 honorees will be:

  • Anita M. Berger, Principal, Benjamin Banneker Academic High School
  • Monica Dixon, Chief Administrative Officer and President of External Affairs, Monumental Sports & Entertainment
  • Danita Johnson, President, Business Operations, D.C. United
  • Jackie Leventhal, Chief Brand and Content Officer, Sixth & I
  • Nimia “Haydee” Vanegas, Entrepreneur and Owner, Haydee’s Restaurant
  • Annie Whatley, Assistant Vice President, External Relations, University of the District of Columbia

 
The evening will include live performances and presentations from notable community leaders, including: 

  • Nicole “DJ Heat” Mosley, DJ for the Washington Mystics and Washington Wizards
  • Enora “Nori Nori” Moss, WPGC 95.5 FM personality
  • Élise Nicole Lewis, Psalmist
  • My Ly, Multidisciplinary Designer
  • Sharapat Kessler, Multimedia Artist
  • Claire Sharp, Media Executive and Publisher
  • Washington School for Girls and Roosevelt Senior High School student performers
