Grants Will Improve and Increase Physical Security and Cybersecurity at Local Facilities

(Washington, DC) – Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Justice (DMPSJ) announced 11 nonprofits have been awarded funding from a $500,000 grant program to enhance the physical security and safety of organizations located in the District of Columbia.

“We know that when we work together, across government and with the community, that is how we build a safe and secure DC,” said Mayor Bowser. “This investment reflects our ongoing commitment to protecting vital neighborhood institutions and ensuring our communities feel supported.”

The Safe and Secure DC Grant will provide partner organizations with funds to improve and increase the physical and/or cyber security of their facilities, and prioritizes preparedness activities of nonprofit organizations that have heightened safety concerns.

“Mayor Bowser frequently reminds us that enhancing public safety is a partnership between government and community. We are pleased to extend our collaborative efforts through the Safe and Secure DC Grant,” said Deputy Mayor Lindsey Appiah. “We are committed to helping nonprofit organizations that serve our communities by equipping them with funding to invest in equipment, personnel, and training, strengthening their ability to protect staff and the residents and visitors they serve.”
