(Washington, DC) – On Monday, March 24 at 11:00 a.m., Mayor Bowser and District leaders will break ground on a new recreation center, early childhood education center, and park improvements in Fort Lincoln.
In 2019, the Mayor committed to bringing three former schools, including the site of the former Thurgood Marshall School, back to productive use as early childhood education centers. The $49 million Fort Lincoln project will deliver a 44,000-square-foot facility featuring the early childhood center, full gymnasium with an elevated track, racquetball courts, an indoor fitness center, a demonstration kitchen, a senior lounge, multipurpose rooms, arts and crafts spaces, a tech/teen lounge, and on-site parking. Enhancements to the 20-acre park will include refurbished playgrounds, new pavilions, improved walking paths, and resurfaced tennis courts.
