Mayor Bowser to Sign Fisheries and Wildlife Omnibus Amendment Act

(WASHINGTON, DC) – On Friday, February 24 at 4 pm, Mayor Muriel Bowser will join Tommy Wells, Director of DC Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) to sign the Fisheries and Wildlife Omnibus Amendment Act of 2016. This legislation will grant DOEE more authority over the protection of natural resources, expand access for the sale and regulation of licenses for recreational fishing, and increase environmental protection for aquatic life, specific critical areas, and shorelines in Washington, DC. The Act also authorizes the Mayor to impose penalties on persons who knowingly transport or trade certain invasive plants and nonindigenous species into Washington, DC.

Prior to the press conference and signing ceremony, media outlets are invited to join Mayor Bowser, DOEE Director Wells, and Ann Honious, National Park Service-East Deputy, for a boat ride to Aquatic Resources Education Center where the press conference will start. Starting location for the boat ride will be at Diamond Teague Park, and press should arrive no later than 3 pm.
