Mayor Bowser to Launch Black Homeownership Strike Force

(Washington, DC) On Thursday, June 9, at 11 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will join District officials, business leaders, and community members to cut the ribbon on the new townhomes at Riggs Park Place. At the event, the Mayor will announce the members of the Black Homeownership Strike Force, who will be charged with finding creative solutions to address the racial disparities in homeownership in the District of Columbia. The strike force will include a group of experts and residents who have successfully navigated the home buying process, 

At the event, the Mayor will celebrate the ribbon cutting for Riggs Park Place, a 183-unit housing community of townhomes, apartments, and retail. By organizing with her Riggs Park neighbors, Mayor Bowser advanced this project as an Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner and Ward 4 Councilmember, and now will see it to fruition as Mayor. 

The Mayor’s Fiscal Year 2023 Fair Shot budget includes $10 million for the new Black Homeownership Fund, a historic $444 million investment in the Housing Production Trust Fund, $26 million to help first time homebuyers with down payment assistance, $3 million to help 70 low-income homeowners fix and maintain their homes, and $1 million to assist multi-generational families with keeping their homes in the family.
