Mayor Bowser, Deputy Mayor Niles, and DCPS Chancellor Henderson to Launch 2016-17 School Year at Ron Brown College Preparatory High School

Sunday, August 21, 2016

(Washington, DC) On Monday, August 22 at 10 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will join education leaders at Ron Brown College Preparatory High School in the Deanwood neighborhood of Ward 7 to celebrate the start of the 2016-2017 School Year.

The Bowser Administration is proud to open Ron Brown College Preparatory High School, the only single-sex public high school in DC. When the school opens, it will serve its first class of over 100 freshman students. After the first year, an additional grade will be added each year until the school serves 600 students in grades 9-12. The school will provide a student-centered, college preparatory curriculum that will develop and enhance young men’s character, academic curiosity, and service while building a strong brotherhood.

The Mayor is also participating in a "Slow Down" campaign to remind motorists to drive safely while school is in session. In the morning, Mayor Bowser will be reminding drivers to slow down at the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue, SE and 11th Street, SE, near Tyler Elementary School and Cesar Chavez Public Charter School in Ward 6. In the afternoon, the Mayor will be at the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue, NW and Albemarle Street, NW, near Janney Elementary School in Ward 3.
