(Washington, DC) – On Saturday, August 17, at 5:15 pm, Mayor Muriel Bowser will celebrate the fifth annual Chuck Brown Day to commemorate the legacy of the “Godfather of Go-Go.” The event will feature two stages of live music and is free and open to the public.
Chuck Brown Day, hosted by the DC Departments and Recreation (DPR), in conjunction with the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, is a celebration of Brown’s life and the rich history of Go-Go music in the District.
The event will begin at 1 pm with the annual “Back to School Giveaway” hosted by the Chuck Brown Foundation, followed by a music festival from 2 pm – 7 pm. DPR will serve free nutritious lunches for youth 18 years and under from 1 pm – 3 pm at the Langdon Park Recreation Center. Food trucks and vendors will also be on site. Residents are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair.
