Mayor Vincent C. Gray to Sign Sustainable DC Act

Sustainable DC Act

WHAT/WHO:  Mayor Vincent C. Gray will sign the Sustainable DC Act of 2012 into law. He will be joined at the signing ceremony by Office of Planning Director Harriet Tregoning, District Department of the Environment Interim Director Keith A. Anderson, and the Sustainable DC committee and cabinet members. .

BACKGROUND:  The law, which was first submitted to the DC Council in April, 2012, will help enable progress towards the Mayor’s Sustainable DC vision of making the District the greenest, healthiest, most livable city in the United States. The Council adopted all nine of the legislation’s proposals. Two of the proposals became law as part of the Fiscal Year 2013 Budget Support Act of 2012, which went into effect last year. The remaining seven subtitles will be signed into law on Wednesday and focus on energy efficiency, renewable energy, water quality, urban agriculture and children’s health.
