BACKGROUND:  The Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue Great Streets Project was implemented through a multi-agency initiative that strategically targets major corridors in the city for infrastructure improvements. These improvements foster more livable communities, promote economic development and improve mobility for residents. The project, funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), has brought extensive infrastructure improvements to the Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue corridor between Minnesota and Eastern Avenues NE. In addition, Burroughs Avenue is a model “Green Street” for the District of Columbia with many environmentally friendly and low-impact design features.

PHOTO OPP:   Following the program Mayor Gray, DDOT officials and members of the community will mark the completion of the project by cutting a ribbon and walking the newly reconstructed corridor.
