Mayor Vincent C. Gray to Host One City Summer Festival

WHAT/WHO:   Mayor Vincent. C. Gray, District government agency representatives and community partners will join District residents in celebrating the end of a fun and safe summer and to recognize agencies for providing opportunities in every ward for children to swim, play, learn, work, create and volunteer. The event will include free food, entertainment, giveaways, wall-climbing, swimming, skating and a special appearance by the Olympic Torch to help promote sports, fitness and the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

BACKGROUND:  DPR, DOES, DCPS, DCPL, MPD, FEMS, DC Water, HSEMA, DDOT, DOH, OSSE, Serve DC, DPW, DHS, DYRS, DMHH, the DC National Guard, DC Children and Youth Investment Trust Corporation and other government and community agencies will offer information on the safety, educational, recreational and nutritional programs and services they provide to District residents. The One City Summer Fun initiative is an inter-agency collaboration to provide, safe, healthy, educational, high-quality summer programming to DC youths and other residents.
