Mayor Vincent C. Gray to Hold Youth Town Hall Meeting on Public Safety in the District of Columbia
WHAT/WHO: Mayor Vincent C. Gray, Deputy Mayor “B.B.” Otero, Deputy Mayor Paul Quander, DC Youth Advisory Council Director Cedric L. Jennings and other Gray Administration Officials will host a Youth Town Hall Meeting to address public safety in the District of Columbia.

BACKGROUND: Since Mayor Gray took office in 2011, he has convened regular Town Hall Meetings for youth ages 21 and under to discuss issues of importance to them. This month marks the 13th such meeting. This Town Hall on public safety is being convened in conjunction with Mayor Gray’s One City Safe Summer Initiative, which began in 2011. All Youth Town Hall Meeting are coordinated by the Office of the DC Youth Advisory Council, which was established to provide an organized youth perspective regarding various issues to the Mayor, the Council of the District of Columbia, District of Columbia Public Schools, public charter schools, key decisionmakers in the DC government, officials and community leaders. Those Interested in serving on the DCYAC undergo a selection process that includes completion of an application and an interview, along with submission of a letter of recommendation. Online and printable versions of the application are available on the DCYAC website at www.dcyac.dc.gov. Applications must be submitted by Friday, August 17, 2012.
