Mayor Vincent C. Gray, DDOT and Local Business Leaders to Kick Off U Street Project Construction
WHAT/WHO: Mayor Vincent C. Gray and District Department of Transportation (DDOT) Director Terry Bellamy and members of the local business community will officially kick off the construction for the U Street NW Streetscape Project. The Mayor will highlight the project schedule and discuss how the U Street corridor will be kept open during construction.

BACKGROUND: The U Street NW Streetscape Project is a DDOT construction project that includes the rehabilitation of U Street NW between 9th and 14th Streets. As part of the streetscape project the sidewalk areas will be reconstructed and widened in sections and will include new landscaping; the roadways will be repaired and repaved; and the streetlights, traffic signals and storm drains will be upgraded. All critical work associated with this $5 million streetscape-improvement project is scheduled to be completed by spring 2013, weather permitting.
