Mayor Vincent C. Gray Congratulates D.C. Council for Passing His Fiscal Year 2012 Supplemental Budget
WASHINGTON, DC) – Mayor Vincent C. Gray today thanked members of the DC Council for approving his Fiscal Year 2012 Supplemental Budget request, which includes provisions to relieve spending pressures in DC Public Schools and to repay DC government workers for $22 million in furlough pay that they were forced to forego in Fiscal Year 2011 in an effort to close a significant anticipated budget gap. However, the Office of the Chief Financial Officer’s audit for FY 2011 showed that stronger-than-expected revenues and strong fiscal discipline by the Mayor’s administration produced a significant surplus for the fiscal year.
“I’d like to thank Chairman Brown for his leadership and the entire Council for helping to approve this supplemental budget, which helps us do right by our public-school students as well as our hard-working DC government employees, who were forced to forfeit a significant amount of pay they otherwise would have received in a measure that later proved unnecessary to balance the budget,” Mayor Gray said.
