Mayor Vincent C. Gray Announces Five-Year Renewal of Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier’s Contract

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Mayor Vincent C. Gray today announced that he and Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier had agreed to a five-year extension of her contract. His statement is below:

“I'm delighted that Chief Lanier has agreed to continue her service to the residents of the District of Columbia. Under her leadership crime has declined, and I look forward to working with her to continue that trend.

Under Chief Lanier's leadership we have also seen a substantial increase in public confidence in the Metropolitan Police Department and a growing sense among District residents that we live in a safer city. These are perceptions that help to shape reality, because when people trust the police, the police are better able to do their jobs.”
