Mayor Vincent C. Gray to Announce Nominees to Board of Ethics and Government Accountability
WHAT/WHO: Mayor Vincent. C. Gray will announce his nominees to the new Board of Ethics and Government Accountability (BEGA) in a press briefing. The new members, including the Mayor’s nominee for the board’s chair, will also speak.
WHEN: Tuesday, June 5, 2012
10:00 a.m.
WHERE: John A. Wilson Building
Mayor’s Press Briefing Room (Room G-9)
1350 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
BACKGROUND: BEGA, created by legislation that the DC Council passed in January, is responsible for investigating alleged violations of ethics laws by District government employees and public officials. In addition, the board will issue new rules and regulations regarding the ethical conduct of employees and public officials and conduct mandatory training on the DC government’s Code of Conduct. The legislation that created BEGA dictates that it will consist of three members, no more than two of whom may come from the same political party. Members will be appointed by the Mayor to serve for six-year terms (except for the initial appointees, who will serve staggered terms). Nominees to the panel must be confirmed by the Council.
