Mayor Vincent C. Gray and District Officials to Announce Winning Vendor for Taxicab ‘Smart Meter’ System
WHAT/WHO: Mayor Vincent C. Gray and Ward 3 Councilmember Mary Cheh, Ward 6 Councilmember Tommy Wells, DC Taxicab Commission Chairman Ron M. Linton, DC Office of Contracting and Procurement Director James Staton and representatives of the winning vendor will announce and outline a proposed contract for “smart meters” for DC taxicabs, which will be sent to the DC Council for approval.

BACKGROUND: The contract is a critical component of Mayor Gray’s plan to modernize the District’s taxicab fleet. This contract will provide for the installation of meters in DC taxicabs that will support fare payments by credit card, GPS tracking, safety features for drivers and passengers, and driver verification, among other innovative features.
