(Washington, DC) – Mayor Vincent C. Gray today announced his nomination of experienced emergency-management consultant Christopher T. Geldart to direct the DC Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency (HSEMA). His nomination is subject to approval by the DC Council.
“Christopher Geldart has extensive experience in homeland security and emergency management at the state and federal levels, which will serve him well in this position,” Mayor Gray said. “Keeping District residents and visitors safe in the event of any adverse event – natural or man-made – is one of our primary functions as government officials, and Mr. Geldart’s experience in coordinating with federal officials and law enforcement agencies in our region suits him well to lead this crucial agency.”
“I am humbled, honored, and excited to be joining Mayor Gray’s Administration,” Geldart said. “I look forward to working with the dedicated professionals of HSEMA as well as our partners from the public and private sector. I thank the Mayor for this opportunity and I look forward to getting to work immediately with the team to support the mission of making the District more resilient and keeping our residents and visitors safe.”
Geldart is currently the President and CEO of G2 Solutions, which provides homeland security and emergency management consulting services. Prior to starting G2 Solutions, he was the Vice President for Homeland Security and Emergency Management for URS Corporation. He previously directed the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s National Capital Region Coordination Office and served as Assistant Director of the Office of Homeland Security for former Maryland Governor Robert Ehrlich. Geldart has been a homeland-security consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton and served from 1989 to 2001 as a member of the US Marine Corps. A graduate of the University of Maryland, Mr. Geldart will move to the District.
