(Washington, DC) – On Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at Whitman-Walker Health (WWH) – Metro TeenAIDS, Mayor Muriel Bowser along with Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services, Brenda Donald and Dr. LaQuandra Nesbitt, Director of the DC Department of Health will present the Annual District of Columbia HIV, STD Hepatitis and TB report. This annual epidemiology and surveillance report offers a detailed analysis on the progress the District of Columbia is making in combatting HIV. The report will offer a comparative view on the number of newly reported HIV cases as well as the number of residents linked to HIV care following diagnoses. New in this report is the reporting of the stage of HIV disease.
In addition to the annual report, a supplemental document on HIV Care Dynamics will be presented. This supplement tracks the District’s efforts to improve the care continuum for persons living with HIV to sustain their health from diagnosis to linkage and retention in care. The goals of the care continuum are for all persons with HIV to be diagnosed, connected to medical care and achieve viral load suppression. Viral suppression ensures a strong immune system and healthier outcomes for persons living with HIV.
