(Washington, DC) - Tomorrow, Mayor Muriel Bowser will host the 2015 Mayor Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) Kick-off Event for the launch of the 2015 SYEP application process, which is open to District youth between the ages of 14-21. District residents interested in participating in the program can register online at summerjobs.dc.gov between Friday, January 30th and Friday, February 20th. Mayor Bowser will provide opening remarks at 12:00 pm and kick off a 12-hour window where Department of Employment Services (DOES) staff will be on site to assist youth and their parents and/or guardians through the application process.
SYEP provides six weeks of meaningful employment and work-readiness training to District youth this summer through subsidized placements in the private and government sectors. Young people who participate are given the opportunity to:
- Earn money and gain meaningful work experience;
- Learn and develop the skills, attitudes, and commitment necessary to succeed in today’s world of work;
- Gain exposure to various exciting career industries; and,
- Interact with dynamic working professionals in a positive work environment.
