Mayor Bowser to Expand Summer Youth Employment Program to 22-24 Year Olds

Reprograms funds for additional youth jobs through commitment of over $5 million

On Tuesday, February 10th at 11 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will visit a Department of Employment Services (DOES) job site where she will discuss her action to expand the Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program for youth ages 22-24, increase wages and provide transportation subsidies for program participants.

Today, Mayor Bowser transmitted a reprogramming to the Council of the District of Columbia to allocate more than $5 million for the expansion, a rate increase and associated transportation costs. 

Mayor Bowser will tour the DOES Jobs Training facility, visit with young people participating in District jobs training programs and deliver remarks about her expansion with Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development Brian Kenner and newly-appointed Director of Employment Services Deborah Carroll.
