Mayor Bowser to Commemorate Black History Month with Visit to MLK Elementary, Announces Director on African American Affairs

(Washington, DC) – Tomorrow, Mayor Muriel Bowser will visit Martin Luther King Elementary School in Southeast to commemorate Black History Month.  Mayor Bowser will read The Story of Ruby Bridges by Robert Coles to kindergarten and second-grade students. The Story of Ruby Bridges is a true story of a six-year-old girl who helped shape history when she became the first African American to attend an all-white school in New Orleans, LA. Mayor Bowser will also announce her appointee for the Director of the Mayor’s Office on African American Affairs.

The classroom meeting will be open to stills and cameras for B-roll. Following the reading, the Mayor will make brief remarks and introduce her Director on African American Affairs.
