Mayor Bowser to call on DC Council to Permanently Expand the Mayor Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program

(Washington, DC) – Tomorrow, Mayor Muriel Bowser will call on the DC Council to pass legislation that will permanently expand the Mayor Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program (MBSYEP). In 2015, the Mayor expanded the program to include District residents ages 22 to 24. If the Mayor’s legislation passes, more young Washingtonians will have the opportunity to gain the necessary job skills, work habits, and connections needed to compete in the District’s thriving economy.

Beginning at 12 pm on Friday, District youth ages 14 to 24 may apply online to work and employers may apply to host job sites for the MBSYEP 2017 at summerjobs.dc.gov. The program will provide six weeks of meaningful employment and work-readiness training. MBSYEP 2017 will begin on Monday, June 26, 2017 and will end on Friday, August 4, 2017.
