(Washington, DC) – Tomorrow at the Deanwood Recreation Center, Mayor Muriel Bowser along with Ward 7 Councilmember Yvette Alexander, DC Department of Health (DOH) Director Dr. LaQuandra Nesbitt, and DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) Acting Director Keith A. Anderson will announce the FitDC Billion Steps Challenge, designed to motivate District residents to walk one billion steps to a healthier lifestyle. City officials will also announce the DC residents that have been selected as FitDC Coaches.
FitDC, a joint initiative by DOH and DPR, is a comprehensive health and wellness fitness initiative that encourages residents to live a healthier lifestyle by linking them to nutrition and physical fitness resources in their communities. Healthy, active lifestyles are a critical component of pathways to the middle class. FitDC Coaches will encourage and inspire DC residents to participate in the challenge, co-lead Ward Walks and provide guidance to residents on making healthy lifestyle choices. After the announcement, the Mayor will be joined by other DC officials, FitDC Coaches and Ward 7 residents in a Neighborhood Walk. FitDC ensures that all residents in all eight wards have access to the tools and resources that will take them on a pathway to healthier outcomes.
