District to Honor Go-Go Icon Chuck Brown with Memorial Service at Convention Center on Thursday, May 31

WHAT/WHO:   The Brown Family, Mayor Vincent C. Gray, Events DC and The Howard Theatre have invited fans of Chuck Brown, the Grammy-nominated musical icon and “Godfather of Go-Go” who passed away May 16, to a public memorial service celebrating his life and contributions to the District’s and the nation’s musical and cultural heritage. The service and celebrity guests will include The Brown Family, Mayor Vincent C. Gray, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, DC Council Chairman Kwame R. Brown, Ward 8 Councilmember Marion Barry, other District officials, Dr. Michael A. Freeman (Eulogy, Spirit of Faith Church), Donnie Simpson (Host), Doug E. Fresh, Mike Epps, Ledisi, Kindred the Family Soul, Tom Joyner, Raheem DeVaughn, Sugar Bear, Omarosa, Cliff Jones, Tye Tribbett, Big G, Huggy Lowdown, Chris Paul, Rock Newman, The Chuck Brown Band and more to be announced.

DETAILS/LOGISTICS:

Parking for camera trucks for news organizations will be available on a first-come, first-served basis on 9th Street between L Street and M Street NW beginning at 4:00 am on May 31.

The use of public transportation is strongly encouraged for the memorial service. The Mount Vernon Square/7th Street/Convention Center Metrorail stop on the Green/Yellow Lines directly services the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Multiple Metrobus and DC Circulator bus routes also stop on at the Convention Center on Mount Vernon Place NW, M Street NW and 7th Street NW.To plan your trip by Metrorail or Metrobus, please visit Metro’s website at http://www.wmata.com/.

A Media Room will be available in Room 204 A/B/C in the Convention Center; it will have access to a video and audio feed of the memorial service.

Pool video feed of the service will be provided through the DC government’s Office of Cable Television. Mult box  will be available for clean multi-camera/switched video and audio program feed (limited to 12), on a first-come, first-served basis. (Composite BNC video out/Analog XLR audio out) Signal will be 4 X 3.

The program feed will be available from the rear of the stage in the production control area. A live signal will also be available through AVOC.  Feed will be available starting at 11:00 am  There will be a press area with a riser provided in the rear of the room in direct view of the stage. (There is power available at this location). Space is very limited.

FLOWERS: Flower Delivery will be accepted at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center on Thursday, May 31 between 6:00 am and 11:00 am at Loading Dock D.

IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, the family asks that donations be made to The Chuck Brown Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 4558, Silver Spring, MD 20914. The Chuck Brown Foundation is a Maryland non-stock corporation. It is in the process of applying for Section 501(c)(3) status under the Internal Revenue Code.
